About Atheeq Ifthikar
Hey there! I’m Atheeq Ifthikar, a visual storyteller, researcher, and the founder of Ceylon Soul, right here in the heart of Galle, Sri Lanka. My journey is deeply woven into the rich tapestry of my hometown, and I’m passionate about capturing the historical and cultural diversity that defines Galle.
My Background
Growing up in a family that's been a part of Galle's vibrant community for generations, I've always been driven by a love for preserving and promoting Sri Lankan culture, arts, and traditions. My background in digital innovation for SMEs and creative project conceptualization has given me the skills to develop engaging and sustainable practices, showcasing the beauty of Sri Lanka's heritage.
My Journey
My journey took me to Singapore, where I studied and worked in hospitality and film production. When I returned to Sri Lanka, I became the Creative Manager and Transformational Experience Curator for a Destination Management Company (DMC). This role allowed me to explore the country, meet fascinating people, uncover compelling stories, and transform them into meaningful experiences that visitors could truly connect with.
Ceylon Soul
With my social-enterprise Ceylon Soul, my mission is to craft immersive experiences that showcase the unique people, places, and stories of Sri Lanka. Whether through film, photography, or a range of curated experiences—from culinary journeys to traditional art and spiritual explorations—I aim to offer a window into the soul of my homeland. These experiences are designed to be both informative and enjoyable, making them accessible and engaging for all visitors to Sri Lanka.
Visual Storytelling
I’m a self-taught visual storyteller, using photography and film to capture the essence of Sri Lankan life. My work has been featured in lifestyle magazines and publications, particularly within the Sri Lankan tourism industry. I also contribute to my family's jewelry business, creating designs that reflect the historical and artisanal beauty of Galle.
Preserving Heritage
All my efforts are aimed at preserving the way of life in Galle and promoting the enriching culture of slow living, which has become even more valued by the world, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. I conduct thorough research and create visual narratives through photo and film, curating mindful experiences that connect deeply with the soul of Sri Lanka.
